The Honeybun Foundation held their annual fundraising event, “A Night with the Stars,” at the Baxter Theatre on May 4th. This year’s event was particularly special as it coincided with the foundation’s 10th anniversary. The evening was skilfully MC’d by the witty Tracey Lange and Natasha van der Merwe, setting the tone for a night of celebration and purpose. Attendees had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets, with incredible prizes up for grabs, all in support of the foundation’s noble cause.
The lineup of talented performers, including Jimmy Nevis, Liam van der Heyde, Kurt Schoonraad, Carletheia, and Liam Burger, made the evening an unforgettable experience. Their performances brought joy and energy to the audience, making the event a great success. Generous sponsors, such as Nando’s, provided delicious meals for the performers, while J&M contributed lovely hampers, adding to the evening’s festivities.
Founded by Stephen Langman in 2014, The Honeybun Foundation has grown significantly over the past decade. What began as a small gesture of compassion has blossomed into a powerful movement aimed at improving the lives of disadvantaged individuals through self-sustainability, health, education, and growth. Reflecting on the foundation’s inspiring journey, Stephen shared, “The Honeybun Foundation was born out of a simple yet profound moment of compassion. It all began when I stumbled upon a Facebook post within our local community group, seeking assistance for a nearby informal settlement. From that moment onward, our remarkable journey unfolded.”
The foundation’s mission has always been to empower marginalized communities, reducing their dependence on external aid by fostering self-sustainability. Over the years, they have expanded their reach, extending support to the most vulnerable members of society, including those in informal settlements and impoverished old age homes. Stephen further explained, “Our efforts aim not only to meet their immediate needs but also to restore their sense of dignity and hope for a brighter future.”
